Owner / Artistic Director, BATD Highland Member, Premier level Dancer
Born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, Charei has always had a love for dance. Originally enrolled in tap, ballet, and modern dance at a young age, she traded in her tap shoes and tutu for a kilt and ghillies and has been heavily involved in the art of Scottish Highland dance ever since.
Charei enrolled in lessons at the age of three and successfully competed for a total of sixteen years under the direction of Heather Donehoo at Heather Glen School of Highland Dance. Highlights of her dancing career include many top awards and placings on both National and International levels, as well as winning the Rocky Mountain Championship and representing the Northwest Region of the United States as 1st Runner-Up delegate in the United States Inter-Regional Championships. Charei also had the opportunity to travel to Scotland to compete in the World Highland Dance Championships, hosted in Dunoon, Scotland. Throughout her dance career, Charei was privileged to win multiple scholarships to attend the O.S.A.S. (Ohio Scottish Arts School) on a yearly basis during the summer months, allowing her to study under the direction of world class instructors such as Joy Tolev, Betty Lawrence, Allison Plemmons, and Angus MacKenzie, just to name a few.
Charei tested to become a BATD, CDET, & SOBHD certified Highland Dance Member/Instructor in 2009 and passed highly commended on first attempt. Charei graduated from the University of Utah in 2014 and is currently employed as a Graphic Designer at 1-800 CONTACTS, while also managing and designing for PopTartan on the side. Charei is an active member of FUSTA (Federation of United States Teachers and Adjudicators) and is a Co-Founder of the MWHDA (Mountain West Highland Dance Association). Charei is also a member of Clan Forsyth, Granddaughter of Dale Michael Forsyth-Sandusky (former U.S.A. Chief Commissioner and President of Clan Forsyth) and has grown up surrounded with and involved in such heritage, hence the school name Forsyth Academy of Highland Dance.
She met and started dating her husband, Trevyn, when they were both in High School, and married him in May 2012. She knew that she had to marry him after he learned the Highland Fling for her. Aside from dance, Charei enjoys documentaries, art, spending time with her husband & spoiled Yorkies, Wicket & Teemo, traveling, True Crime podcasts, and eating copious amounts of chips & salsa.
